Stop the Bleed Program Brings Lifesaving Training to VVC

Jun 17, 2026 | Schools & Sports

Students at Victor Valley College recently had the opportunity to learn critical emergency response skills through a Stop the Bleed training workshop hosted by the college’s Pre-Health Scholars Program in partnership with the Biology Department.

The interactive training focused on teaching participants how to respond to severe bleeding emergencies before professional medical help arrives. Students received hands-on instruction in applying tourniquets, controlling blood loss, and responding to realistic emergency scenarios designed to build confidence and preparedness.

The skills taught during the workshop can make a significant difference during emergencies, where quick action often plays a critical role in saving lives. In the High Desert, where residents frequently travel long distances, enjoy outdoor recreation, and navigate busy roadways, knowing how to respond in a crisis can be especially valuable.

The training was made possible through the support of Dr. Naveen Jalota, Biology Department Chair Dr. Lisa Harvey, and healthcare professionals from Providence St. Mary Medical Center, who helped provide students with practical instruction and real-world insight.

Beyond preparing future healthcare professionals, the workshop reinforced the importance of community readiness and public safety. By equipping students with lifesaving skills, Victor Valley College continues to provide educational experiences that extend beyond the classroom and empower students to make a positive impact wherever they go.
