Twelve schools in the Snowline Joint Unified School District have earned statewide recognition for their commitment to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) — a program designed to create safe, supportive, and thriving learning environments. The awards, which range from bronze to platinum, were granted through the California PBIS Recognition Program, part of the state’s Multi-Tiered System of Support.
At Snowline, five schools achieved Platinum status: Baldy Mesa Elementary, Phelan Elementary, Piñon Mesa Middle School, The Heritage School, Vista Verde Elementary, and Wrightwood Elementary. Gold-level awards went to Quail Valley Middle School and Serrano High School; Silver honors were received by Chaparral High and Piñon Hills Elementary; and Bronze recognition was awarded to Eagle Summit Community Day School and Snowline Academy.
PBIS is an evidence-based framework that emphasizes teaching clear behavioral expectations, reinforcing positive choices, and supporting students who struggle. Rather than relying solely on punishment, it works through three levels of support: universal strategies for all students, targeted interventions for those at risk, and intensive supports for individuals with greater needs.
By integrating PBIS, Snowline leaders say they are fostering more consistent, caring school cultures where students feel safe, respected, and ready to learn. Robert Chacon, public information officer for the district, emphasized that the recognition is not just an award—but a statement of their ongoing commitment to building environments where every child can thrive.
Congratulations to all the students, educators, families, and community partners who made this achievement possible. Snowline’s success with PBIS shows what can happen when a district prioritizes both academic growth and social-emotional support — something every community can celebrate.
