A new affordable housing development is moving forward in San Bernardino, bringing expanded support and housing opportunities for veterans and their families. Local leaders recently gathered alongside community partners to celebrate the groundbreaking of the E Street project, a development focused on providing stable housing paired with essential support services.
The project is a collaborative effort between San Bernardino County, the City of San Bernardino, U.S. VETS, and Kingdom Development. San Bernardino County contributed $5 million toward the $28.4 million project through its Community Development and Housing Department, reinforcing a broader commitment to supporting those who have served.
Once completed, the development will feature 30 residential units, ranging from one- to four-bedroom homes. Half of these units will be reserved for veterans experiencing homelessness, helping address one of the region’s most pressing challenges. In addition to housing, residents will have access to on-site services provided by U.S. VETS, including mental health support, career development resources, and peer connection programs designed to promote long-term stability.
Each home will include modern amenities such as full kitchens and bathrooms, while shared features like laundry facilities, a community center, and gathering spaces will help foster a sense of community among residents. The project is expected to open in 2027 and will serve households earning 60 percent or less of the area’s median income.
The development also carries a meaningful legacy. The land for the project was generously donated through the estate of Holocaust survivor John Boruchin and his wife Dora, whose contribution will help create lasting opportunities for veterans in need.
As construction begins, the E Street project represents more than new housing; it reflects a continued effort across the region to provide support, dignity, and stability for those who have served their country.
