Victorville Asks Residents to Help Shape City’s Hazard Preparedness Plan

Aug 26, 2026 | Community Life

Community survey gives residents an opportunity to identify local concerns and help guide future projects aimed at reducing the impacts of emergencies and disasters.

Victorville residents are being invited to share their experiences and concerns about potential emergencies as the City works to update its Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP).

The plan is designed to identify the hazards that could affect the community and establish strategies for reducing their impact before an emergency occurs. Maintaining an updated LHMP also helps Victorville remain eligible for certain Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) mitigation funding.

As part of the update, the City has launched a community survey that will remain available through Fall 2026.

What Hazards Could Affect Victorville?

Living in the High Desert comes with a unique set of potential risks. Wildfires, earthquakes, and drought are among the natural hazards that could affect Victorville and surrounding communities.

The City’s planning process also considers emergencies caused by human activity, including hazardous material spills and aircraft crashes.

By hearing directly from residents, the planning team can better understand which hazards concern the community most and use that feedback when considering future preparedness policies, mitigation projects, and other strategies intended to reduce risk.

Residents Can Share Their Priorities

The anonymous survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete and gives community members an opportunity to provide input on their experiences, concerns, and priorities.

Responses will help inform the City’s planning process and identify areas where additional preparation or mitigation efforts could lessen the effects of future emergencies.

The survey is available in both English and Spanish, and responses will remain confidential.

Why Hazard Mitigation Planning Matters

Emergency preparedness isn’t limited to responding after something happens. Hazard mitigation focuses on steps communities can take beforehand to reduce potential damage and improve resilience.

That could include identifying vulnerable areas, improving infrastructure, developing policies, or pursuing projects that address known risks.

Community participation provides an important local perspective. Residents who have experienced wildfires, earthquakes, drought conditions, or other emergencies can offer insight into how these events affect neighborhoods and which concerns should receive greater attention.

How to Participate

Victorville residents interested in participating can learn more about the Local Hazard Mitigation Plan and complete the community survey through the City’s official LHMP webpage.

The survey will remain open through Fall 2026.

Questions about the planning process can also be directed to the City of Victorville Risk Management Division at (760) 955-2807 or RiskManagement@victorvilleca.gov.

For Victorville’s nearly 142,000 residents, the survey offers a simple way to have a voice in how the community prepares for future hazards, and help local leaders identify priorities that could make the city safer and more resilient.
