Victorville, CA — The Victor Valley College District Foundation has received an $80,000 grant from Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation to strengthen the Veterans Resource Center (VRC) at Victor Valley College for the 2025–2026 academic year. The funding will expand support for student veterans, helping them succeed academically and professionally while easing financial pressures.

Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation awards grants that align with its four philanthropic pillars: inspiring future generations through education, empowering lives, fostering resilient communities, and preserving cultural traditions while supporting Indian Country. At the Foundation’s President’s Circle Luncheon on September 4, Program Officer Monique Osorio spoke about the Tribe’s commitment to education, calling it “the key to creating paths to a better future for generations.” She also recognized the extraordinary legacy of Native American service in the U.S. military, noting their high enlistment rates and contributions across every major conflict for more than 200 years.

With this award, the Veterans Resource Center will expand its hours to include evenings and Fridays, as well as provide scholarships and emergency aid for students in need. “This grant ensures our veteran students have the resources, support, and opportunities they deserve,” said Esteban Peñameza, Program Manager of the VRC. Kirsten Acosta, Executive Director of the Foundation, added, “Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation has long supported education and community initiatives. We are proud to collaborate with them again to strengthen services for those who have served our nation.”

This partnership reflects a shared dedication to veterans and their families. By removing barriers and providing vital resources, Victor Valley College and Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation are working together to ensure veterans in the High Desert have the tools to achieve their goals and build brighter futures.
