San Bernardino County Fire continues to look ahead when it comes to protecting local communities from wildfires. As part of that effort, the department recently hosted a demonstration of emerging aerial firefighting technology from Seneca, a California-based company focused on modern fire-suppression solutions. The demonstration highlighted the Argo-1, a semi-autonomous unmanned aircraft designed to support firefighters during the critical early moments of vegetation fires.

County fire officials stress that early detection and fast response are key to keeping wildfires small. The Argo-1 supports that strategy by combining autonomous flight capabilities with thermal sensing and targeted suppression, helping crews identify and respond to hotspots more quickly. Rather than replacing firefighters, the technology is intended to work alongside them—adding another layer of support while reducing exposure to dangerous conditions.

With vast open land surrounding many High Desert communities, tools that help crews act faster could play an important role in preventing small vegetation fires from becoming major incidents. Investments in innovative response technology highlight a growing focus on safety, preparedness, and protecting local neighborhoods.

San Bernardino County Fire says it will continue exploring forward-thinking solutions that enhance firefighter safety, improve efficiency, and strengthen community protection. More information about the Argo-1 and Seneca’s technology is available at Seneca.com.
