A Hesperia nonprofit is receiving national recognition as part of a coast-to-coast service initiative celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States.
High Desert Second Chance has been chosen as one of only 250 organizations nationwide to receive a commemorative truckload of food through the America Gives campaign, a nationwide effort encouraging service and community support in honor of the country’s upcoming semiquincentennial.
The special delivery is scheduled to arrive during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, July 14, at 11:30 a.m. at the organization’s Hesperia facility. The event is being coordinated through JustServe, a volunteer platform supported by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which is partnering in the nationwide campaign.
The initiative has already reached every state across the country, with food deliveries taking place from Alaska and Hawaii to communities along the East Coast. By the end of the year, organizers plan to distribute 250 truckloads of food, providing millions of meals to nonprofits and food assistance programs serving families in need.
For High Desert Second Chance, the recognition reflects years of service to local residents. The nonprofit operates a variety of community assistance programs throughout the year, including emergency food services, open market food distributions, senior nutrition programs, children’s holiday events, back-to-school outreach, and a summer lunch program for students.
The upcoming food donation will help strengthen those efforts while expanding the organization’s ability to serve individuals and families throughout the Victor Valley.
As communities across the nation prepare to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, this initiative highlights how service and volunteerism continue to bring people together. For the High Desert, the selection of High Desert Second Chance shines a spotlight on the important role local nonprofits play in supporting neighbors and building a stronger community.
