Hesperia Celebrates Student’s Ivy League Achievement

Feb 18, 2026 | Schools & Sports

The Hesperia community is celebrating a major milestone after the City Council recognized one of its own for an extraordinary academic achievement. Senior Mariangel Rubio has become the first student from Hesperia High School to be accepted to Princeton University, earning a full-ride scholarship to the prestigious Ivy League institution.

Mariangel plans to pursue a degree in neuroscience, building on her strong interest in healthcare and science. During her time at Hesperia High School, she founded the school’s Medical Club, giving fellow students opportunities to learn foundational medical skills such as taking vital signs and exploring careers in healthcare.

Her commitment to the field extended beyond campus. Mariangel independently secured a medical fellowship that allowed her to shadow nurses and physicians, gaining valuable hands-on insight into hospital environments and patient care.

City leaders recognized her accomplishments as a point of pride for Hesperia, highlighting the dedication, initiative, and leadership she has demonstrated throughout her academic journey. Her success reflects not only personal determination, but also the strength of local schools and the supportive community behind them.

As she prepares to begin the next chapter at Princeton, Mariangel’s achievement stands as an inspiration to students across the High Desert and a proud moment for her family, her school, and the entire Hesperia community.
