The Hesperia Animal Shelter is helping local pet owners protect their furry family members with a free microchipping special running now through June 30 while supplies last.
The program is available to Hesperia residents only and allows one free microchip per household for either a cat or dog. Shelter officials say microchipping is one of the most effective ways to help lost pets safely return home if they become separated from their owners.
The free service is being offered Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hesperia Animal Shelter, located at 11011 Santa Fe Avenue East.
Microchips provide pets with permanent identification that can be scanned by shelters and veterinary offices, helping reunite animals with their families more quickly.
Residents interested in participating are encouraged to visit early, as the promotion is available only while supplies last. For additional information, community members can contact the Hesperia Animal Shelter at 760-947-1700.
The shelter also encourages residents to explore adoptable pets currently available through its online listings.
