A unique program that combines craftsmanship, creativity, and camaraderie is making its way to the High Desert this fall, and organizers are looking for a local venue to help make it happen.
American Patriot Music, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting veterans and first responders through music, has received a $15,000 grant from Flagstar Bank to host a free guitar-building workshop in the High Desert this November.
The multi-day workshop will give participants the opportunity to build their own guitar from start to finish while connecting with fellow veterans and first responders in a supportive environment. Organizers say the experience is about much more than woodworking—it’s about creating friendships, reducing isolation, and promoting healing through shared experiences.
Leading the effort is Tony Villegas, an Army veteran and president of American Patriot Music, who says the organization is now searching for a facility large enough to host approximately a dozen participants. The ideal location would include electricity, restroom access, and enough space to accommodate three full-day workshop sessions, where breakfast and lunch will also be provided.
Since launching the program in 2018, American Patriot Music has hosted workshops throughout California in a variety of locations, including schools, airport hangars, warehouses, wineries, and community organizations. Along the way, participants have shared stories of renewed confidence, lasting friendships, and the therapeutic value of working alongside others who understand the challenges of military and first responder service.
The nonprofit was founded with a mission of using music as a tool for healing and connection. In addition to its workshops, the organization supports veterans through the American Patriot Band, whose performances help raise awareness and funding for programs benefiting those who have served.
Organizers hope to bring the same positive experience to the High Desert and are encouraging community organizations, businesses, or public facilities with suitable space to consider partnering with the program.
Those interested in participating, offering a venue, or learning more about the upcoming workshop can contact Tony Villegas at (909) 908-2480. The workshop is free for participating veterans and first responders thanks to the support of Flagstar Bank and the nonprofit’s community partners.
