A Place Where Seniors Thrive: Inside The Senior Center of Adelanto

Jan 14, 2026 | Community Life, Spotlight Features

What was once a quiet, dormant building has been transformed into a vibrant hub of connection, laughter, and purpose for local seniors — thanks to Molding Hearts, the nonprofit organization operating the Senior Center of Adelanto.

At the heart of this transformation is Angie Miller, Director of the Senior Center of Adelanto and founder of Molding Hearts. A true visionary, Miller saw not just a building, but an opportunity to restore community to Adelanto’s senior population. While the City of Adelanto owns the facility, the center is fully operated and funded by Molding Hearts, a distinction that speaks volumes about the dedication behind its success.

“On behalf of Molding Hearts Org and the Adelanto Senior Center, our heart has always been simple: to serve seniors with dignity, consistency, and love,” Miller shared.

Since reopening, the impact has been undeniable. Seniors who were once isolated at home are now gathering daily — engaging in activities, building friendships, and rediscovering joy. Today, the center serves an average of 60 seniors per day, a powerful indicator of both need and trust within the community.

More Than A Meal

The Senior Center of Adelanto offers much more than a place to pass the time. Seniors are welcomed with free breakfast and lunch prepared fresh on site, followed by a wide range of weekly activities designed to stimulate the mind, encourage movement, and foster connection.

Popular programs include games, arts and crafts, “lunch and learn” sessions, musical performances by local professionals, and food giveaways. Monthly birthday celebrations and themed events — such as the End of Summer Beach Party and a Holiday Craft Market where seniors sold their handmade goods — have become highlights on the calendar.

Some of the center’s most anticipated activities include No-Stress Bingo, Coffee and Storytelling Hour, and even tabletop horse races. Educational programming is also a priority, with workshops like a well-attended suicide prevention seminar, underscoring the center’s commitment to both physical and emotional well-being.

“This center is more than programs and meals,” Miller emphasized. “It’s a place where seniors feel seen, valued, and cared for.”

While the programs are impactful, the relationships built help truly define the Senior Center of Adelanto. Friendships form quickly, companionship grows naturally, and for some, connections deepen in unexpected ways.

One moment that perfectly captures the spirit of the center? A marriage proposal between two seniors who met at SCA — a testament to the power of community and human connection at any stage of life.

Looking Ahead in 2026

As the center continues to grow, so does its vision for the future. One of the biggest barriers identified by seniors has been transportation. Many want to attend but simply lack a way to get there. In response, Molding Hearts has made transportation a top priority for 2026.

The City of Adelanto has generously donated a bus to support this effort, and the organization is currently working through logistics to launch transportation services that will allow even more seniors to participate.

Safety and accessibility are also front and center. Plans are underway to replace chairs and improve ADA accessibility, ensuring seniors can move comfortably and confidently throughout the space.

The center is also expanding its programming by tapping into the incredible life experience of its attendees. Starting next month, seniors will have opportunities to lead enrichment sessions for their peers. One upcoming example includes a former police officer speaking on home burglary and fraud prevention.

Additionally, the Senior Center of Adelanto recently launched its Facebook page, making it easier for seniors and families to stay informed and connected.

How To Get Invloved

Seniors and families are encouraged to visit the Senior Center of Adelanto Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., or follow the center on Facebook to learn more about upcoming activities and events.

Through the leadership of Angie Miller and Molding Hearts, the center continues to grow as a place where seniors are valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.
