High Desert Second Chance marked a major milestone on Saturday, November 15, 2025, hosting its first-ever fundraising event — the A Taste of the Islands Gala. Designed to bring culture and community together, the evening became an unforgettable celebration of generosity, unity, and shared purpose. What started as a hopeful vision quickly transformed into a remarkable achievement as the organization not only reached its initial fundraising goal of $60,000 but exceeded all expectations by raising an impressive $81,000. The funds will go toward the purchase of a new tractor-trailer, a critical addition that will allow High Desert Second Chance to transport larger quantities of food and essential supplies across the region, significantly expanding its ability to serve families throughout the High Desert.

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was the recognition of the Harbor of Hope honorees, a group of partners and individuals who exemplify exceptional community service and leadership. This year’s Impact Champions included Feeding America Riverside San Bernardino, High Desert Church, and The Farmlink Project, all of which play vital roles in combating hunger and supporting vulnerable families. Community leaders Regina Bell, Sylvia Romo, and Lydia Garcia Usry were honored for their longstanding commitment to uplifting residents and creating lasting change. Nonprofit partners Millionaire Mind Kids, Community Health Action Network, and Today’s Woman Foundation were also celebrated for their dedicated work to empower youth, strengthen community health, and support women across the region. Together, these honorees represent the heart of High Desert service and the spirit of the gala itself.

The event was guided with charm and professionalism by Master of Ceremonies Paul Gostanian, who kept the evening on schedule while making guests feel welcomed and engaged. Attendees enjoyed a beautifully prepared dinner provided by Best Choice Catering, complete with warm rolls and sweet butter generously donated by Texas Roadhouse. The night’s entertainment was equally memorable as the Hot Lava Polynesian Performance Group from Las Vegas delivered a stunning live show that included a breathtaking fire dance. Their charismatic MC, Mr. Runi, kept the audience entertained with humor and energy, adding a vibrant touch to the night’s cultural celebration.

With the success of its inaugural gala fueling excitement, High Desert Second Chance has already begun planning for next year’s event. The 2026 Arabian Nights Gala is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026, and promises a captivating performance by an exceptional Mediterranean group from Los Angeles. Organizers anticipate another unforgettable evening filled with culture, community, and celebration.

As High Desert Second Chance reflects on this milestone achievement, the organization extends heartfelt gratitude to every supporter, sponsor, attendee, and volunteer who helped bring the A Taste of the Islands Gala to life. The event stands as a powerful reminder of what is possible when a community unites behind a shared mission — hope is strengthened, culture is celebrated, and lives are transformed.
