Victor Valley College Students to Benefit from New Hydrogen Fuel Cell Buses

Jul 29, 2026 | Schools & Sports

Victor Valley College students may soon have a cleaner way to travel to and from campus as the Victor Valley Transit Authority (VVTA) prepares to introduce its new fleet of hydrogen fuel cell buses into service.

This week, VVTA crews were spotted at Victor Valley College filming promotional videos featuring the next-generation buses, offering students and the community an early look at the environmentally friendly vehicles before they begin regular operations.

According to VVTA, the new buses could begin transporting passengers within the next week or two, marking another step toward expanding sustainable public transportation throughout the High Desert.

A Cleaner Way To Travel

Unlike traditional diesel-powered buses, hydrogen fuel cell buses produce zero tailpipe emissions. Instead of releasing exhaust pollutants, the only byproduct from the vehicles is water vapor, making them one of the cleanest public transit options available today.

The new fleet is part of VVTA’s ongoing commitment to investing in cleaner transportation technologies that improve air quality while supporting California’s broader environmental goals.

For students, faculty, and community members who rely on public transit, the hydrogen-powered buses will offer the same convenient service with a significantly smaller environmental footprint.

Free Transportation for Victor Valley College Students

As the Fall 2026 semester approaches, Victor Valley College is reminding students that transportation to campus is already included with their enrollment.

Students who obtain an ASB Student ID card can ride any VVTA fixed-route bus free of charge throughout the Fall 2026 semester.

Student IDs are available through the ASB Office in Building 44, and college officials encourage students to pick up their cards before classes begin to take advantage of the benefit from the first day of the semester.

The program helps reduce transportation costs for students while encouraging greater use of public transit across the region.

Investing in the Future of the High Desert

The arrival of hydrogen-powered buses represents another milestone in the High Desert’s growing investment in sustainable transportation and innovative technology.

As communities continue exploring cleaner energy solutions, projects like VVTA’s hydrogen fleet demonstrate how public agencies are working to reduce emissions while maintaining reliable transportation services for residents, students, and visitors alike.

With classes set to begin soon, Victor Valley College students may be among the first riders to experience the region’s newest zero-emission buses as they make their debut on local routes.
